ive heard the hair should be a little greasy like from being unwashed before bleaching/dyeing so it doesn't damage the hair as much. at least that's what ive always done when i used to dye my hair a few years back

some people say to put coconut oil in the hair before bleaching as well but idk about that, i havent tried
