no, I honestly wouldn't take it that far either
but I've been i enough cases where I couldn't pay with my card and had to resolve to using cash and if you don't have any on you, you're in a bit of a mess
like the bank system in Luxembourg for the electronic cashiers was down for a whole day once and people couldn't pay with their cards anywhere and it was a whole mess
sure, super unlikely to happen, especially in bigger countries to happen to the whole country, but I've seen it happen a bunch of times that not having cash in the end just meant not being able to get what you wanted, which just sucks even more if you want to buy groceries or essential care items that you really do need at the moment
I still have a few bank notes in my wallet but coins are absolutely useless.
(you could always use them to knock someone out)

Yes hence the "if you can take out bank notes out at the grocery store" they will probably accept small coins for bigger notes even tho it might be annoying for them
