I honestly think it's important to set some rules for your children with screen time.
I remember reading an article about us humans starting to develop something in our neck, so it doesn't hurt to look down as much as we do every day. Here is a link And I honestly think it's scary how used we've gotten to the phone and other screen time. I am actually starting to develop this as well.
It also is bad for development of children in some ways, because they don't learn to connect to other humans, if they're dependent on screen from an early age. There's also the whole social media thing with "the perfect life", comparing yourself to others online and this constant stress of being ""woke"" and worry about all of the world's problems at once.
With that said, Jesus Christ they don't make it easy to live without your phone or other electronics on you anymore. I remember getting the covid vaccine last year, and instead of taking my phone with me I took a book with me to read, and when I got to the place where the vaccines where, they wanted me to scan a QR-code to get all of the information I needed before getting vaccinated. I think I have an app for all the places I shop now because they don't make physical cards for it anymore and all of the identification and permissions I need to give are also given from my phone now. I literally can't log on to my university website without getting a code from my phone, and therefore I literally can't do the assignments if the battery is dead. Every single application has to be sent from a computer as well.
There's also the whole school thing you've mentioned. It's hard not looking into the screen every day for tons of hours, with the amount of work you need to do on a computer - both as a child and as an adult.
