Moonshine isnt really a montana thing tho

Its strawberry mead and it used to be a meth mecca... well it still is but everything is imported now homemade meth labs are a thing of the past

I dont have any moonshine stories but pre ephedrine ban meth stories I do have (second hand cuz I was 8 and under)
fun fact
dry counties (no legal alcohol) have higher rates of meth lab busts and other meth related crimes
Why am I not surprised

Meth is super huge in the mid and northwest cuz mountain men were making clandestine houses... my sisters aunt got busted doing that with a bf in 04 I believe

I'm too young to remember but I know when I was like 4, right after my moms divorce, her moms apartment we moved back into got raided cuz her roommate was literally getting packages of that shit in the mail

Good gravy I grew up so trailer trash its amazing, I was probs in daycare during the raid

Gran claims she was just shocked had no idea but I doubt it

How is moonshine illegal but its still moonshine if its legal
I do not understand what it is,
You'll definitely hear the phrase around here "it ain't moonshine if you pay taxes"  - which means it's not moonshine if it's sold legally.

So there's a company in Tennessee that makes "legal moonshine" ('Ol Smokey), but it's disrespectful to Appalachian culture to call it moonshine when it's made legally. What 'Ol Smokey makes is just unaged corn whisky.

What we call "real moonshine" is illegally distilled, unaged, corn whisky.
(however if moonshiner makes a batch of blackberry wine that don't taste very good he's still gonna distill that and sell it as moonshine, and we'd still consider that fairly accurate even though it's not corn-based, because it's illegally distilled liquor by a moonshiner)
The only "moonshine" (legal) I can see sold in norway is everclear lightnin moonshine and it has to be legal because,, norway,, but idk if its moonshine then or no. I guess its called moonshine, cus what is the difference really, its made of the same stuff I guess even if its illegal or not but
I feel like moonshine is a regional cultural term, y'all my have your own name for it?

If a crucial part of the definition of moonshine is that it is illegally distilled we don't really have it, and based on "corn whisky" we definitely do not have it, corn is very non-European, you can't grow corn in Norway. Illegally distilled liquor in Norway is generally known as "heimbrent", at least where I am from, but it's not whisky, it's maybe closer to vodka but definitely not the same as my parents talk about the flavour of heimbrent being very distinct so idk, but also I don't drink so I have no idea

Yeah, In Germany you just say "Schwarzgebrannter" (which translates literally to distilled without paying tax) and is kinda common in the more rural areas (well, at least in Luxembourg, which is close enough to Germany to count). But also, everyone knows that there's like only 1% of all those brews you can trust because most of them are just fucking vile. Also, I've never heard of anyone below the age of 60 being into making their own schnaps. (I think around here you usually use either herbs or fruit from your garden to make the schnaps.)

fun story
one of my college professors told me that his research corn field got plowed down by the ATF because some Karen reported a "suspicious character" (the professor) going "in and out of the field at odd times" (he's an etymologist and was emptying the bug traps for research). No call, no warning, no meeting, no interview, he just showed up to work and the entire research cornfield had been destroyed.
isn't that illegal.....what is ATF anyway??

and I'm SO glad I'm not from/in KY... sorry but eww

I think the flavor is just distinct because a lot of ppl make poor quality or don't bother distilling it properly tbh. It should be fairly tasteless, like vodka I guess, it is practically vodka, but yeah

Most are just sugar and water and fast yeast, some ppl put potato but its rare I think. And then let that do its thing and distill it

I mean yeah a lot of homemade alcohol isn't good because folks have no fucking clue what they're doing and it can be dangerous. It's kinda why it's regulated lol

California is full of illegal burritos (thought i never thought of them as that. but its true) and they are delicious!!! but i would love to go to Kentucky for the moonshine. i have never had any type of moonshine. store bought or otherwise. but if im gonna try it i want the real thing!!
Illegal burritos are soo good
after clubbing/alcohol
Don’t sleep on the birria!
i have yet to find a good birria spot. i want to love it so bad but everywhere ive gone has lacked flavor. when i went to Utah there was a place called Holy Taco and it made me fall in love with AlPastor. I cannot wait to go back.

Thing is you ain't really just gonna roll into kentucky and "find moonshine" you gotta know someone.
it's like trying to buy weed, really.

I used to travel out to the boonies where my partners (now ex's) dad lived, poorest county here, no police force, his driveway was like a solid mile long, to pick up a case of shine and bring it back to town and sell it.

I no longer have a moonshine hookup which is a bummer.
but I've tried several folks moonshine and his was the best.

One time, my ex, who was an HVAC service tech, got tipped on the job with a small bottle of 'shine and it was the nastiest 'shine we ever had. Like they didn't pour off the heads when distilling.

well i guess i need to make a few friends out there before i go lol.

now i am tempted to learn how to make moonshine so i can enjoy it in my home on the rare times i do have time to relax and have a drink.

my boyfriend is in school for HVAC rn. i wonder if the people who tipped him with the bottle thought their stuff was absolutely delicious and they were doing him a favor with the bottle lol.

More life tips

after adopting cat #2, cat #3 is almost inevitable. After cat #3 you really must remain on guard at all times to avoid a hostile takeover.
The other night in Latonia, KY a bar-cat tried to climb in my car and come home with me, and I was like oh no, no sir, I'm not fallin' for that one again

I can't stop thinking about that cat
