I honestly think it's a fair criticism and confusion to have in this specific instance. I also think they're doing their POC actors a disservice when they cast them in roles, most people see as predominantly white WHILE they're doing a lot of marketing that seems to cater to nostalgia.

I honestly think it's fair to compare it to Netflix's Bridgerton - where the TV series is known for inclusivity, but the books aren't as inclusive (and the author has said she doesn't feature POC because she thinks her characters will be racist) but I've not seen the same amount of outrage for the inclusivity in that series compared to stuff made because of nostalgia. (I might however have been ignorant) Another thing might be, that Bridgerton isn't really catering to the men in the population, but idk if there's any correlation there.

Yeah they should just make a live action Princess and the frog or Pocahontas, which both have non white protagonists, or the hunchback of Notre Dame which had Esmeralda. Kida from Atlantis could also be a good one, a live action Atlantis would look gorgeous!!
