Tbh people who managed to get to 600 pounds should get professional help, there have to be a lot of issues behind that.

I couldn't even afford enough food to get to that weight.
more so that fast food is a lot easier and cheaper to get these days, than to walk to a shop and buy fresh produce. also some people suffer slower metabolism which can definitely play a part, is definitely the only reason im more on the chubbier side

But wouldn't this person still be able to pick up his phone and like call someone to help

Uh no.
I am fucking poor, oatmeal that lasts for a week is cheaper than one frozen pizza, sweets are cheap but still not cheaper than bread and frozen veggies and eggs and milk.
Maybe it's different in other countries, but frozen meals like pizza or nuggets are almost always more expensive than basics like milk or bread.

The fast food argument is weird too like a Mc Donald's meal is usually between 5 and 10€, I can buy groceries that last me 3-5 days with that money. Okay maybe a little less with inflation but still.

its easier yes but at least here def not cheaper? fast/junk food be expensive af comparing to just making basic home made food
also yes slow metabolism can make you gain weight easier, but it doesn't make anyone 600lb you still have to eat absurd amount of food for that

if they're assisting the person in sustaining that weight or even continuing to gain weight then yes absolutely theyre actively engaging in someones self harm

Yeah hypothyroidism n stuff doesn't impact weight that much, for most u would still fairly easily fall into a normal weight range, there are more other serious issues that can come from it but. I won't get obese, mby chubby but not big

Hmm idek where I stand on that...

If they are actively encouraging it, feeding them and not helping the person get help, that's kind of neglecting isn't it?
If you have taken on that responsibility you should be encouraging help, if you don't wanna have that responsibility you shouldn't be there in the first place.

If the person is bedridden
there’s no way they can walk
to the kitchen/fridge and get
the food they’re consuming
yes, because starving someone isn't something that would end you in prison ...

no, unless they are kept hostage or aren't an adult in their right mind without a legal guardian
but if they have mental/developmental issues and are deliberately overfed by someone with actual guardianship then i suppose the caregiver should face some repercussions

it's ambivalent obviously
like you can't let someone starve just because they are morbidly obese
aiding them in just even keeping their weight is also morally questionable because it's obviously like assisted suicide (well, as far as being morbidly obese and dying from those results is ever considered a suicide - it seems to be a common perception in this thread, but I've never encountered it being discussed like that)
but that moral question gets even more dubious if you're talking about someone with no medical training, a family member who just tries their best and doesn't know bettr because it's not their fucking job
like, at most you'd get charged with involuntary manslaughter, if even that

there are many relevant factors that aren't mentioned here, like, what responsibility the caregiver has taken upon themselves, what competence they have, what can be expected of them etc. but a person, incapacitated or not, has a free will which shouldn't be easily overlooked, and i think that weights heavier than any other circumstance in such a case (answering as if the caregiver gets instructions from the caretaker on what they want to eat).

anyway
it's not illegal in sweden to help someone get what they need to commit suicide, just as long as the person themselves do the last active choice, like for example take and shug down pills that someone else got them  (after the person asked them to get them the pills). again, free will and free choice weights heavily and i think i believe that's pretty good...

Yeah I don't think you know how much 600 pounds are? That's 272 kilos, getting to that weight is an active choice, no one accidentally becomes that big I'm zo zorry

Overweight people (especially women) sometimes have experienced SA and unconsciously get overweight, because they feel less attractive and therefore more secure.

There are actual studies on this, which is wild.
