hahahaha, then even more reason for doing so. The world is really small !!
I can't right now, this is just peak comedy
btw I'm already super psyched for the new mag because of the themed articles for this one!
Hahaha, and we haven't even realized.
I hope we'll get it done in time !! It's really fun to do, but will also be the last monthly magazine for now, bc of the lack of recognition/sales compared to the amount of time we put into it, so we'll start doing it bimonthly, which is kinda sad, but will hopefully also make it easier to make some very interesting content without running out of ideas.

I mean, how would we, considering we both went full on incognito mode over there in regards to names :d

Yeah, I feel like sales have gone really down in the last month for all magazines
like even super cheap ones don't pull the numbers anymore (likely because of the batshit amount of trading magazines)
what "annoys" me (strong wording, it's really more just like a serious pet peeve) is how most users probably won't spring for what I think magazines would be amazing for. I would seriously love essay style articles about certain topics, but who'll ever read more than 200 words in one sitting. (maybe people would be more into it when it comes to a magazine centered around books and reading, but even there I feel like it's just not really catching on)

It's not really optimal to use the same kind of websites with different names :p But it is how it is.

Yeah. It's an overall problem unfortunately, and we're also kind of hoping a statement in the magazine (and eventual forum) might put a spotlight on the problem that trading magazines and stickers (to some extent) actually are. I know a lot of people have been vocal about wanting tags for magazines, so stickers and trades don't pop up in "popular" in Scoop, so I am hoping it'll happen.
I would honestly also love some longer articles and some research for different topics, because it would be so lovely to read. (and also just enjoy content other people have made) Most book magazines mostly do reviews though, or some "if you read x, then we recommend y", and I haven't really seen any other magazine with substance besides Shakespearan's on publishing.

(also thank you! We hope so too!)

AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

to be fair, I would have gone with Masilein there too if ES hadn't burned me

I definitely hope so too. Because usually I would go hunt down magazines to read, but as it stands, I really cannot deal with it because it's all just pointless crap (in my opinion) cluttering up scoop.
I already played with the idea of collecting magazines with content somewhere so people can easily access it and can post their own recommendation as well, but too much work for a thread that'll inevitable flop either way...
Well, maybe you could do one like that? Or add a few articles to it. I really enjoyed the longer articles in the last issue (I mean, I wrote a review as long as one of the artciles, it's very likely not news to you :d)

thank you! (l)

Honestly a fair point ! I do, however, think that most of ES's users aren't on gSm. At least it feels like two vastly different environments, but of course it's not possible to know that when the site just launched.

I am actually also considering doing some kind of list or "high effort" masterpost of magazines worth spending time on due to content and love put into them. I try to stalk and find the good ones in the official "promote your magazine" thread, but also do keyword searches in Scoop once or twice weekly.

We are hoping to do some more indepth stuff for later magazines (and maybe less recommendations and maybe more author spotlights ?? we don't quite know yet) but it's just 1) very hard to find specific topics to write on and 2) hard to do research on book-related topics specifically. I did a school project on how YA can help form and shape teens in highschool, and I am kind of considering doing something similar for an issue, but I'm not quite sure yet. Also, making articles won't make it so I can read them.

I hope you've had a nice day!
And of course !!

yeah, a lot of them are users who've been banned or left due to the climate, but I couldn't be sure of that when I registered, so alas here we are

Well, if you ever want to do that, I'll help you search for more!!

uhhhh, honestly, author spotlights could be fun. I also feel like many book review magazines focus heavily on series', which feels a bit weird to me to recommend 4 books of the same series and then portray it like it's a completely different thing. like sure, it's different books, but usually it's a whole arc that spreads over a few books, so in theory for most of them it's still just one big story with maybe one part of it being better written or the plot just generally getting better or worse as the story progresses (and thus the books keep going on)
a bit like series... few people would review series' like this from episode to episode. some do, but that's a completely different appraoch

okay, this is me basically just bitching because I feel like some book series recommendations look like I get a recommendation for 3 books when in fact I often only get 1 actual story and then extended packs to it. and if I don't like it, I don't like the 3 of them. otherwise when it's different ones, there would be a chance for one that still would be up my alley.
(hope you know what I mean. this was more of a "I'm not happy with the general reviewing landscape, so I'm all here or shining light on the authors and then having a broader spectrum)

Oh, that sounds like a fun subject!
If you ever need ideas on what one could do, I do have a small list of topics I personally find interesting and would love seeing discussed in magazines.

Yeah, that's honestly fair. No reason to get a sour experience due to bad apples on a website honestly.

That would be absolutely nice !! Question is, whether it's possible to make a long list at all atm.

I looooove deep dives into authors! I am waiting for an excuse to do it with Ursula K. Le Guin, who I also think would be interesting to do articles on, because her mom was an anthropologist, so her work is heavily inspired by culture and trying to make good representation. I get the series thing! I think series are good to review to some extent, because sometimes you start a series you really enjoy, and then it just goes downhill. If people are making content on books, then it's easier to keep recommending the series you're actively reading and happy about reading, compared to reading that plus finding something to make content on.
I do however agree that it's possible to compare to tv shows, and in some way it's misplaced to focus heavily on something, where if book 1 didn't catch the audience, then tough luck.

I also think a deep dive into an author is better to do if it's not just a series, but like Stephen King or Neil Gaiman or similar, who writes a lot of standalones, where you don't come back to them due to one interesting plot they made up, but instead due to their writing in general.

I might have to contact you then ;) The YA article might pop up at some point, and the articles for next magazine has been planned atm.

possible, but probably a lot of organisational work depending on how to tag it or so, because else it will just be a fucking long list of links no one will be able to wade through properly

ever since I found out Neil Gaiman is on tumblr living his troll lord life and actively trolling people on twitter too, I've been very much invested in getting into his works. though yeah, king also would be an intersting one for a profile. (I never heard of Ursula K Le Guin, so I'll wait until I find more about her to see what there is to her.)

Well, feel free to do. I already told Arcane that they can message me whenever the two of you fancy a second pair of hands with a few of the layouts (or just generally looking for layout assets), so now I'm on both your call lists :d

I honestly think the optimal way to do it would be by making categories the magazines could fit into!

Neil Gaiman is a gem! I really enjoy him, and he narrates a ton of his own stories, which I also think is nice. King would honestly be lovely to make something on, but I hate horror and scary stuff, so I don't know if it should be me, hahaha. Ursula is more up my sleeve, but she also writes a lot of short stuff, so I think it's easy to get into her works.

We're happy for the support honestly. Also kind of saddened by the lack of people interested in writing something for the magazine, but it is how it is.
