joint word of virtual youtuber. usually is an anime-like avatar to represent yourself when u stream. this is Usada Pekora shes a japanese Hololive vtuber too! u can see her on the side of stream and usually thats how the streams are held, i guess? it became really popular to become a vtuber during & after covid time, when ppl was at home and wanted to pass time / make income via streaming but not show their face. it also spread a lot to across world instead of just being a japan popular way to stream

definitely a corner of the internet that u dont know about unless u make it known urself. i think anyone that even just casually enjoys anime, there's a big chance they know about vtubers as they kind of share similar themes of art and representations/ themes? a lot of westerners have adapted vtubing and put their own twists onto it too, like having vtuber model of their own body (life like looking) for when they just want to stream a bit more casually without putting in appearance efforts. it can be expensive to have a professional looking model / profile though if u want to get into it... i think some ppl spend a couple thousand of dollars to start up properly, which is a major downside to vtubers
