imagine someone is standing with a gun to you or your loved ones head, and then some random person runs by a and shoots the person with the gun.
is it legally just? No. Was it good that that other person is just running around shooting people? No. Will you be happy/relieved the person threatening you can no longer do that. Yes.
its just that people don’t seem to comprehend that words can also be the cause of deadly violence? Are they at least don’t seem to absorb it in any meaningful way. They know that someone spewing bigotry is bad and that someone beating up a minority is bad, but they don’t seem to see how the person of power spreading those talking points are causing the beatings, and the suicide, and the poverty and the drug use etcetc
sadly, for most people, unless they are directly impacted by laws and such that are created with the support of these ideas being thrown constantly, they don't get it. they don't see it the way we do because it just looks like freedom of speech. but freedom of speech doesn't mean you get to call on violence against minorities and have that speech tolerated by anyone
Yeah,,, and the annoyingnpart is that when you do try to explain it they will still act like you’re being some weird overthinking conspiracy theorist simply because they don’t ever think about it on this level, because they don’t have to, even if they are progressive generally
