It's a disturbing novel/film, but that's the point. In the beginning we hear about Annabel whom he fell in love with at 14 years old, and she died, and he tells that it hurt him so bad that he kept looking for her in others, even in adulthood, and he targeted Lolita. It's not a romance, it's about a sick man abusing and manipulating a child, he himself thinking it was love. We see it from his pont of view, a
man's twisted fantasy, a very vile side of humanity. I like how this rhymes lol
