was my ex-boyfriend challenged?

This is not meant to be offensive; I sincerely wonder if he was slightly delayed or had learning disabilities or something. I will not lie that some of his antics were amusing however.

Here's a great example:

So at a retail job we both used to work, he volunteered to cover a shift on a scheduled off day. He began drinking with a friend before his shift, so I said, "Don't you work today?" He said that since he wasn't scheduled, he didn't have to come into work. I told him that because he volunteered, work was expecting him and it would be considered a no-call no show. He fed me some lie to tell our supervisors. I didn't want to tell the truth and deal with him being dramatic, so I modified his lie to make it sound more believable (it was around the lines of, 'he was gone when I woke up, idk where he's at, I suspected he was running errands or something. didn't respond to my messages)

Well of course they ask me where he's at after a half-hour of his shift passes. Of course they try to call him and he doesn't respond until several calls later. So there he is, buzzed and at work. Really who reasons in such a manner? what the fuck.

one of my absolute favorites:

we used vegetable stock for chili and stored it in the pantry before preparing it. About a quarter of the stock was left and he put it back in the pantry. After a week I asked, "When you open a jar of pasta sauce, where do the leftovers get stored afterwards?" "In the fridge." "So when you open a box of vegetable stock, where do the leftovers get stored?" "...oh?"

god why is that so funny what the fuck

more just sounds like typical male who doesnt care to think about consequences of actions, just thinks about immediate action

1)
he volunteered but he didnt get confirmation so lazily left the effort of confirming/actually asking him to do it on somebody else.  didnt care enough about the burden of responsibility to sort it out. drank instead of accepting responsibility and going in

2)
got the stock. thought "put back" rather than assessing that the state of the object / food had changed .  lazy .

no. He was asked to cover the shift and said yes. his friend who was staying with us started drinking (in the morning, btw) and he began to drink as well and his rationale was "I volunteered to cover and management is expecting me, but technically it's my day off so I don't have to come in and it won't count as an absence." obviously not true.

he was just being stupid then lol
i still think its selfish though, clearly he knew they expected him to be there and was ok with somebody unexpectedly having to make up for his laziness

what I don't understand is how he didn't realize that by agreeing to show up, that meant the schedule was technically re-written.

he may not have been a lil slow (I mean I don't think he's severe enough to be qualified legally as mentally incompetent/intellectually disabled by the state if he actually is) but he's not the brightest crayon in the box. lol.
