Let's talk mental energy
Account deleted

" Mental energy is a mood, but can also be defined as ability or willingness to engage in cognitive work. "

since my dad made a point at dinner and it conveniently matched with a video I watched earlier today about how we spend our mental energy every day. I don't personally know much about it, but maybe you can shed some light on something you know about it and we can discuss or just talk around it.

Down to the questions:
do you think we spend our mental energy differently today? and is it better\worse than, let's say, the time before the internet? Share your experience? Have the way you use your mental energy changed over time? Do you limit\shield yourself in some way to save mental energy for the important tasks in your life? Does VP affect your mental energy positive or negative?

My dad says that something clearly has changed in the way people study today, and in the amount people manage to study at a time and stay focused\mentally present. He says that it clearly is because of the internet and how we spend our time constantly consuming media.

I watched this video (9m long), How the way you watch movies affects your life, earlier today and it does support the statement. How we spend our mental energy is important and often we find ourselves running out just during work\school time, going home to watch videos in the background without not really focusing on what's going on and scrolling our phones after. There are obviously other reasons as well, and changes between individuals, - like mental health fx. - but most of us do consume media on our phones, laptops during the day even if we're out and about.

So I used to be what the video calls an "active watcher." I watched the series and movies I wanted to watch actively. If I was tired to not follow properly along, I considered a waste of my time. Now, I'm more of a"passive watcher." I just watch to watch, to get the time passing. Most of the time I don't really care about what I'm watching as long as it is somewhat engaging. I hate that I am like this because I used to love watching the series I liked to watch and enjoy the time, and not all series are a bit duller because I overconsume them. It has been going in my mind for about 2 years and I still haven't changed it, lol.

Anyway, this whole topics really got to me because of the debate yesterday and all the energy that was put by users into the discussion about this page. Discussions\arguments like that are energy-consuming, and it reminded me of the importance of having healthy limits to what you choose to indulge in your everyday life to best save your mental and emotional energy.

What about you guys?

think there was a study on people's attention spans and how they're much shorter now because of religious use of social media.
I feel like mine would have been shorter if I wasn't reading and writing so much lol But still it is short when it comes to studying, but that's mental health related.

so is this like the same thing as people with asperger's have it easier to run out of energy and therefor have to do a planning on how to divide the day so the energy will last for all the tasks ?
if so then i understand, otherwise i have no clue what it's about

I don't know much about Aspergers, but most likely it either is the same or it is in a similar genre. It may be the same, I just don't have the knowledge to make that statement. It boils down to that you have x amount of mental energy to get you through a day. What you use it on and when during the day, affects the rest and can easily tire you out in a short time. So people could benefit from knowing where they spend energy and at which amount to be able to have the amount of energy they need at all events during a day. Mental energy is, for example, the energy you need to focus on a task, to watch a movie present and not just consume media inactively.
