b\c at least in cows it is all about the hormone balance and how certain hormones that have active roles in making sure the animal ovaluates, is heightened and then lowered by different hormones at different times. There are basically two parts - the first which makes the egg ready to detach and be inseminated - and then the other one (progesterone) that tells the body that it hasn't gotten pregnant this time
by the brain noticing that there's less progesterone in the blood. So if the pill includes progesterone I'll assume it makes your brain believe that it has been impregnated and therefore you don't get your period.
like this is all I know. It probably was no help, but this kinda supports it
