Tbh, it's usually never a good idea to try contacting someone after months-years of not being in contact with them when things ended on a bad note.
The apology is nice, but it might bring back memories they purposely forgotten.

Idk, I guess it depends on the context a bit as well.

i would add that they should not feel obligated to respond to your message and you do not expect a response

That's valid. I still have to advise against it since it's been 4 years. I'd likely feel confused and uncomfortable myself if I received an apology that much later.
Though if this is an ex friend irl it's more understandable and all I can say is don't push for contact. Let life lead you, if you're meant to reconnect one day then you will.

Depending on how close you were with this person, it might or might not be a good idea to show up apologizing after 4 years. Sometimes it's better to leave the person alone and not remind them what happened

tbh i wouldn't be very flattered if someone would sent me letter like that so many years after
or idk depends probably, idk what you did and how you know that person soo..

I mean, it sounds good, but to me, it would feel more like a way for you to "atone for your sins" so you can feel better, rather than it being a genuine apology. I'm not saying that that's what you're doing, but it might seem like that to the recipient.

i wouldn’t send that if i was you honestly.
apologizing after this many years sounds indeed like you just want yourself to feel better and guilt free. Maybe they don’t even remember what happened and it’s much better that way. Sometimes silence is for the bestz

On that note, focus on growth instead of guilt from your past. Use what happened then to become a better person now.

UFDGJFKKJ now i dont know whether i should send it or not

okay okay so the thing that happened was:

this person was an artist that was a bit populair in my country and i had a twitter account where i could talk to them and talk to people who liked the artist's music. this artist knew my name, age, checked my tweets and sometimes talked to me. but at some point i said some pretty hurtful stuff to them and that i was gonna leave them and never listen to their music again and how im done with it yada yada and this person was hurt pretty bad and sad and angry which is very understandable

and i feel really stupid and silly but i cant stop thinking about it and i really want them to know im truly sorry
