i have a question

this is not actually linked to any specific topic, it just got me thinking; when a thread is locked, due to it being harmful (aka a more severe rule break than i.e. spamming) why is it not also deleted quite shortly after?

i feel like (might be wrong, but its the impression ive gotten) threads on here are never deleted, just locked, unless they contain criticism of the "vp status quo" (cus such topics have i seen get deleted), but other than that the locked threads just slowly make their way down the page

im asking cus if the topic itself is a definite rule break, why is it not also deleted some time after informing the person who made it?

also dont get me wrong, lets say, i dont want normal threads that get locked bcus they turned sour due to a heated discussion to be deleted, cus i think those kind of conversations are important. but threads with "no value" and just a plain simple rule break - why keep em?

k now i wanna hear yalls thoughts

It eliminates the "why did you delete my thread?" questions as well as the "censorship" many want to say. They are able to see the reasoning and reflect on what they have done. We leave the choice of deletion up to the owner.

Same reason why i'd rather remove portions of a comment and replace it with an X instead of just deleting the entire thing. It just feels wrong

as long as deleting is limited to the examples given i dont see how anyone would yell censorship abt it tho. a triggering troll post should be deleted imo, esp if the postmaster has already gotten a punishment for their actions and thus already know what rule they have broken

and also, in several locked threads there isnt actually a statement posted from mods either, its just.. locked. those topics could for sure be deleted imo

You'd be surprised. Many fight back over the smallest things and don't ever believe they've broken any rules no matter what you say.

Threads are "quietly closed" when there is no reason to bring them up hours later to the front page or if they are continuing from a locked thread/showing up on a side to cause drama. We try to be as quick as possible

We don't actually delete those, we just move them to the Mod section

yea i agree, so for discussions and threads that have had gained activity i prefer it to stay. but like threads that reached 2 posts before being locked because it was i.e. super-triggering or violent or smth........ we aint needin it
