This. And not knowing your own identity when in a relationship is v common, but not healthy. I suggest that if you do decide to stay w him, you find some ways of 'finding' yourself wo him. Find a hobby, a new group of friends - anything that is only yours.

I know exactly how you feel. My ex didn't make me feel happy and there was always arguments but I stayed with him for 8 years because of my love for him and because I thought I would be losing the best thing in my life. I felt I would be nothing without him like you. After leaving him about 4 weeks ago I'm realizing now that the unknown isn't too bad and that it actually feels better than when I was with him. I may have lost him and sometimes I feel depressed but I'm much better mentally now than when I was with him. You don't leave with nothing after the end of a relationship, you leave with lessons you learned and you still have a support group waiting to comfort you. 

Don't be like me and waste your time and energy on someone for 8 years, your happiness is not dependent on others
