i get that, that's literally the point of my post, that like
the ambiguity around what they are saying vs. what they mean is unsettling because:
1. it's hard to trust your own instincts re: that person or those statements
2. that person can potentially 'get away' with suggesting really nasty things, because their language is too ambiguous to effectively call them out on it

this happens in English too and tbh the only people who do it are racists and if someone described chinese food that way to me i'd think they were a racist ngl
