The major difference in tarantulas is if they are a new world or old world tarantulas. If someone is not familiar with the terms "New World" and "Old World" are terms to describe continental areas. New World meaning the continents after Christoper Columbus got lost and "found" the American continents. When Old World means Afro-Eurasia.

When speaking of new world tarantulas almost all of them have urinating hairs. The urticating hairs are categorized from type I to type VII, varying in the location of the body, size, and shape. The urticating hair is a misnomer. The most commonplace for urinating hairs to be is on the opisthosoma and the different types of hairs are believed to be targeted at different enemies. The most effective ones for mammals are type III and IV. There is hairs that are not usually kicked off by the tarantula, type II, usually, the hair is delivered by touch but there are some exceptions that kick of the type II hair if needed. l can sure tell you it is a pain in the ass when a tarantula kicks some hairs at you.

On the other hand, Old World tarantulas don't have urticating hairs which has developed them to have more potent venom than New World tarantulas. Therefore, Old World tarantulas are more easily provoked to defend themselves with what looks like aggressiveness, thread posture, and biting. Not aggressive by nature because the tarantulas don't defend themselves without a reason, the tarantulas just have a lower tolerance of provoking than New World tarantulas. Old world tarantulas are also far faster than New worlds, especially as slings. The slings teleport. lm sure of it. When tarantulas grow up the speed is the same but related to their adult or juvenile size it is far easier for the eye.

Yes, tarantulas are venomous. Usually, New World tarantulas' venom if less potent than Old World tarantulas. Most species venom is not worse than a wasp sting but there are some species that can cause you serious discomfort and last for several days. Usually, the bite itself is far more discomforting than the venom because the size of the fangs that get sank it to your skin. Personally I'm not planning to get bitten ever.

It is a myth that tarantulas are dangerous for humans. But l do have add there are few Old World tarantulas that when bitten can cause severe muscle cramps for several days. If you have underlying heart problems l don't suggest you would get these species and do your research first. For example, my favorite genus Poecilotheria  is known for having a quite potent venom. When speaking of species specifics species Cyriopagopus hainanus and C. Schmidt aka Chinese bird eaters are considered to have the most potent venom of tarantulas. l would also suggest if bitten by Old World tarantula you should always go to be checked at the hospital just in case.

Some more to the basics. Tarantulas are either terrestrial or arboreal. There are built differences. Arboreal tarantulas usually have elongated legs are, more "petite" overall built, great jumpers, and fast. The name might give it away but arboreal tarantulas usually live in trees when terrestrial prefer living on the ground or living under the ground. Terrestrial tarantulas are built like tanks. In my head burrowing tarantulas are a subcategory in terrestrials. They don't have any anatomic differences but the burrowing tarantulas prefer building burrows and web their burrow openings if given the opportunity.

Humidity plays a big part. Not all tarantulas like high humidity e.g most African tarantulas like it dry expect some exception like Heteroscodra Immaculata which is mostly found in the rainforests of Congo. If the humidity is not proper for the individual needs the tarantula cant properly molt which can be fatal.

The tarantula just needs you to give them the right setting, humidity, and feed the tarantulas. To me, very easy pets to keep when it comes to husbandry. Yeah, lm gonna add that if you consider getting a tarantula you should get a New World as your first due them having docile nature and remember to do species-specific research.  l don't handle my tarantulas. If l have to go dig something up or pick l use tongs. Tongs when feeding, changing water dish and etc... Never hands.

Tarantulas have some complications that the cause is unknown. Sometimes their excrement gets stuck in their bowel which almost always leads to the tarantula dying.  Cause unknown. There is plenty of these but quite rare. Tho, most common can be parasites that are transformed into the tarantula by feeding crickets. l don't feed mine any crickets because crickets are cannibalistic which usually is the source of the parasites or bacteria.

Cuties. I can't say I wouldn't squint if I saw one but they're certainly fuzzy and cute looking, just their crawling is a bit creepy.
