hiya! these are maybe lesser known movies that completely blew my socks off when i first watched them, and still do. pls check them out!!!
1. children of men (on netflix!)
THE best dystopian movie, dare i say, ever?? especially with the corona / refugee crisis now, this movie seems more relevant than ever. it's about a world where women cannot get pregnant anymore and society is breaking down.
best parts about this movie are the long shots (sometimes up to 6 minutes long) and the story that is constantly happening on the background
the trailer does not do the film justice but here it is:
2. mommy (dir. xavier dolan) (on netflix in some countries!)
mommy is a hilarious movie (dark comedy) about a kid with severe adhd and temper issues. this movie is shot in a square format but it's done so with purpose, i can't tell you why because that will spoil the movie.
3. the florida project
tells the unglamorized story of poverty. a single teen mom with her kid lives in a cheap motel next to disney world. this is a beautiful but also heartbreaking story about adults in adverse situations and the children that grow up within them.
