when u stop seeing your worth in your body and idea of beauty, it becomes practical. 
and that "evolutionary need" to stand out, is in context to "attract" mates, surely where it has been observed in MALE specimen, while plastic surgery is a practice that deliberately preys on WOMEN to make them conform to standard thrusted upon from a male dominated society.
