but if we didnt recieve endorphins and oxytocin when we do things for others we wouldntve done them, in the long run its just about feeling good about yourself

i think some people like truly beleive that they have a moral obligation to do good like they do things out of a sense of Duty. i don't think people who truly act out of a sense of Duty are selfishly motivated.

i think though that this is rare and most people who Claim to act out of a sense of Duty are not truly doing so.

yeah i was thinking about wanting to be a good person and that is a selfish desire isn't it? but also one can sincerely do something just because of the chance that it might help someone but it doesn't feel good to them (i.e. it feels awkward, stupid, costly, or they may not even notice it). I mean, a person who loves their best friend or significant other does things for them even when they would rather a selfish action or they have no guarantee that they will ever get something back for it. I guess living by moral standards is a selfish desire? I mean, dying for your kids would by this logic be selfish because you are striving for the end you want (i.e. your kids to survive in this scenario)... but while technically true it seems to defeat the meaning of the definition of selfish (googe says: " (of a person, action, or motive) lacking consideration for others; concerned chiefly with one's own personal profit or pleasure.";) i guess its kinda like calling the sky blue--it makes sense but its also like not... true ...?

i meannn you can be motivated by self interest and be selfless. it's not like inherently selfish or self serving because it feels goodits pointless because if there are no good deeds that exist without self interest then there is no point defining it at all, it just is you know.  we can say "people do good deeds to feel good, everyone is selfish" but that's just redefining selfishness
also brain chemistry isn't like everything, we avoid things that gives us endorphins for other reasons
