i know europe pays too goddamn much attention to america, but like i was saying in my original post its not like. thoughtful critical attention informed by genuine engagement with america. its sensationalist news tht feeds into european superiority complexes idk like. the media image of america in europe is just like wildly different from about 99% of my experiences actually living there. europe may pay more attention to america but that doesnt mean europeans are actually that informed abt anything going on w america. especially random europeans who dont spend a lot of energy learning but just wanna play armchair pundit

im not saying americans arent super ignorant abt stuff that happens in the rest of the world, i just think its tacky for uninformed europeans to make sweeping claims abt the state of american democracy etc. and it comes off as super insensitive when they seem to be genuinely enjoying the suffering of millions of people just bc it makes them feel better abt their own country / leadership / etc idk
