i was asked by a journalist to write a "readers letter" (leserinnlegg in norwegian) for a big local newspaper. She saw my comment on a "what do u want more focus on in mental health?" facebook post, and i wrote about how i think some diagnoses get normalized or downplayed, cus people r like "omg i have such OCD i just HAD to clean my room" or "omg my anxiety is so high rn" just cus theyre a little stressed.

ive never written anything like that before. has anyone here done something similar? should i do it? any tips?

o hmkdfj never have but would make me so nervous ? but i definitely think you should do it, sounds like a rly cool opportunity !Ā
you can definitely ask this journalist to help you too ? like idk i'd probably approach that by asking some clarifying questions about what she's looking for re: tone, length, focus, etc. & making sure she's prepared to read and give feedback on your letter (?) before you finalize it

also ur right and u should say it that some (SOME!!! v few tbh) diagnoses have been democratized 2 the point where relatively mentally healthy people who experience anxietyĀ feel they have authority 2 speak on issues concerning ppl who have anxiety disorders nd in doing so downplay the difficulties of ppl whose anxiety is like actually clinically significant for example but hmklvcx idk have thoughts on this

I mean anxiety is just like nervousness etc tho, u can have high anxiety without having an anxiety disorder. Obv not talking for the ppl that say they have an anxiety disorder when they don't or talk over ppl with anxiety disorders but just saying ur experiencing anxiety or that ur anxiety is high is ... Very ok
