ok i live in this student housing complex n we have a whatsapp groupchat for our building, around 130 people, just for like. convenience

last night some guy who lives across the hall from me posted in the gc a photo of a dude ... fucking a woman from behind, doing the nazi salute, w a swastika flag in the bg, w [n-word].com or smth (idk i didnt look too closely) superimposed over it .... like unannounced without any kind of preceding discussion or anything. just posted it

anyway the gc devolved pretty quickly into people just reacting with those dumb whatsapp stickers and i dont really know what any ofthose r supposed to mean in a normal situation so idk. some ppl left the gc. but this guy and his friend kept posting rly awful shit, like a swastika made out of penises n photos of hitler and stalin.

these are guys who are rly good friends w one of my roommates, who live on the same floor, who take the elevators with me, who go to my school

idk i cant tell if im being like overdramatic but i genuinely feel sick abt it, had a fucked up dream about it, cant stop thinking about what i'll do if i end up running into one of em in the elevator or smth and idk i just feel rly unsafe for the first time ever since moving here and

yea idk am i overreacting or . it just feels so incredibly fucked up and i dont understand how anyone would do that i. cant wrap my head around it

no not like. idk i don't think they're Actively Violent White Supremacists i just dont htink ..... they respect people, their comfort, their sense of security, etc. and having them around (i.e. as very close friends of one of my roommates!) makes me super uncomfortable

but the posting of it into a 130+ person group chat feels like they are purposefully trying to upset people and it idk feels a lot less like bad jokes and a lot more like an attempt at harassment or intimidation or like. to actually upset and disturb people instead of just. idiots in their own lil circle circlejerking abt hitler

Depending on their reply, you can then choose to block them and get out of their way in the house or just keep interacting with them.
Or, you could just take it for what you think it is (I mean, they did post that shit without a comment, so clearly invited you to think your own stuff about it) and take a decision according to that.

I personally would leave the group chat, maybe talk with a few that left to make a new group chat without those idiots and depending on my mood talk to them and telling them, that if they think that that is proper behaviour and in any way or form reflects their personal standing, I'd much rather we wouldn't even know our names anymore.
