I study sociology, but I don't know if I am choosing the right thing. In some ways it is really interesting, but sometimes I don't see the purpose, and feel kind of alone when working on projects.
What do you study and/or work as? What are the pros and cons? Are you happy with your decition, why or why not?
Sociology:
Pros
- You can work with (almost) everything.
- Important work
- I think getting a real job in sociology can make it more motivating for me.
- You are really "free" to choose what you want to work with.
.
Cons
- Feels pretty "lonely" to study at times.
- It does not always seem like it's "important", because it really depends on what you are researching, and what the task is.
- I find the study somewhat hard with lack of motivation, especially when it comes to statistic.
- I feel a lot of uncertainty when it comes to job: Will I even get a job with just a bachelor education? It seems difficult to actually get one at all.
- Studying a really "broad" and "freeing" fiel, can also make it a bit hard to see what you actually are gonna work with at the end.
I think motivation is a big factor for me, and maybe that is why it's a lot on "cons" at the moment.
- It is a lot of reading, and I'm not good with reading books. I love watching movies, series, on the subject. I think that I don't like reading might have with that I have "aphantasia".
