Before mother pigs give birth, she goes with other mothers in a large straw bed. Not 100% on how big it is but we put in less than what is meant for the bed so they have a lot of space. So they can jump around and sleep on.

When mama give birth she is in a box that is 7x7 meters and much much of straw to make a bed of to give birth in.

The babies are allowed to be with their mother for 7 weeks before they are moved from the mother and into a box on an area that is 6x5 meters. around 15 kilo each baby pig. And a tierd mama back in the large straw bed again. than what is meant for the box so it does not get crowded.

Omg thats honestly so cool

i always wonder if farmers get emotionally attached/form an emotional bond with their animals. Do u get attached to ur pigs? If so, how do u deal with the fact that they are gonna get slaughtered at some point? like isnt it hard to send a pig that u have basically raised from birth to the slaughterhouse? like how do u deal with that emotionally?

I dont mean this in any type of criticizing way btw. Like im not trying to be like “HoW DOes iT FeEl To KiLL Ur PiGS MEAT IS MURDER” or shame/guilttrip u or anything like that im very neutral about this stuff im just genuinely curious bc i myself get very attached to animals and have no idea how i would handle it so id love to hear ur experience and ur perspective

oh wow. Many things. I take care of 1 farm by my self. My boss have 6 farms and I work on 1 of them.

My job consists of plumbers, electricians. And the pigs. My day looks like I'll start the day by removing poop from everyone and sprinkling with new straw. Check that no one is ill or in pain because then they will receive medicine. Then check that everyone gets food and gives dry food to those who do not eat the wet food. I give fruit to my sick babies when they eat poorly. Helps mother pig to give birth if she has problems. go very often well. Big nice babies. Scraping poop is about 70% of my job as they should be clean and nice. If I have time left over, I may just sink into a box and cuddle with the little ones and mom.

I love pigs. I went to school to learn about farm animals and other animals. So I can work as many things with animals. Zoo, farms, store and much more. But 4 years ago I got this work. I myself don’t eat much meat.
I know maybe u wont trust me when I say that u see on tv is not how we do here. I can’t do any pain for the pig. When I did start at this place I did feel really mean and so. But when u learn and the pigs trust u. No problem.

On this farm and the farms we know around here take really good care of the pigs. I know some places that are bad. And they had a hell when I did talk to them. But last time I was there things was so much better.

I myself eat meat but not much. And I eat meat from places I know.

I would never mistreat any animal. I know my work, and ppl think I do bad things. But I don’t. Never. Pigs that my boss wanted to put a sleep bc they was ill. And I did not many times, and all went good. Bc if a pig gets really sick here. I can sit with it, help it drink and eat. And always it get better. So for me when ppl put them to sleep, I think I could do more.

I always get attached to the mama and her babies. Mama pig stay with us 6-7 years so that part is hard. Some mama is so lovely, some u can’t look at bc they are angry for no reason. haha. Hospital one time. 😇
And ofc I fall for all the baby pigs. They are so cute and smarts and funny. But it was harder at the start. Now 4 years later u learn. I still love them. And want to take them home. But u learn how to control your feelings.
