I'm not sure.. When I google things to look at recipes instead of calling my mother asking it's always like nutmeg, but I've never seen nutmeg in our cupboards so I'm sure we never use it

yeah i know i just want to know why it's there, it seems so pretentious especially considering the small amount of it that gets used 

similarly, yet strikingly different, saffron.... so expensive. but imo it tastes different baking with saffron than with turmeric
