whats ur opinion on thrifted presents
Private
Streetmusician

? I know theres been some surveys at least here in norway, and the older generation (aka parent) are negative towards it whereas the younger generation are more positive

how do u feel abt it
Would u gift someone a thrifted christmas or birthday present? Would it matter if its christmas or a birthday?
Are u positive or negative towards receiving thrifted presents ?

i myself have done it multiple times
i bought my best friend a thrifted accordion for his birthday 2 yrs back, that was a hit
other friends have received original polaroid cameras, pretty vintage tins, globes etc etc etc

this thread was just prompted by me finding something in my closet at my mom's place that i was supposed to gift a friend last year n now that i found it again im gonna gift it this year instead, n save money LMAO

cant think of a reason why someone would feel negatively towards thrifted presents . ridiculous

I wouldn't wear it if it was clothes or sum cus it feels gross to me, but thats in general tho, im not negative towards it only as a gift cus its the cheap way out or whatever, mostly cus I wouldn't wear it yeah

i think the connotations the older gen had to it was that it was looked upon as cheap, dirty, embarrassing like maybe people would think they couldnt afford new presents

but i will add to that that i dont agree n think that way of thinking is wack

as long as the gifts are cool i dont care if they’re not new. if they bought it specifically with me in mind, i don’t see any issue with it

well,, i got a fucking wack as lantern last christmas from my former contact person and she had asked me what i wished for,, n i said skincare or jewellery n i got that shitty lantern
i had extra said to her that i'm no collector n that i don't want things that can't be useD
i'm prolly also mad because she was making money out of me being there visiting her
so like for her to having bought that...nah i wasn't having it

so i guess it depends? i don't mind second hand in general but if i haven't wished for something n have said i don't like ornaments or w/e, secondhand or not, i'm gonna get mad because clearly someone hasn't been listening then

so that was a matter of the item in question, not the fact that it was thrifted, no?

clothes if it's not something extra special, small home appliances (like... a coffee maker or a hair curler or sth), home decor items

i wouldn't mind like an instrument, camera or music records. or like hobby stuff that pertains to me
