tw: suicidal thoughts

so if i have depression and some suicidal ideation, but i also have a lot of physical pain (from trigeminal neuralgia n other undiagnosed pain), & the pain is pushing me over the edge to considering actually committing u know

is this a somatic problem or a psychiatric problem

do i go see a regular doctor (for help with the pain) or do i go to a psych ward / psychiatric crisis treatment

imo you start at the regular doctor and they're qualified to know if you also need to see the psych doctor.

like these things are connected. it's not two separate things- it's more like a gradient. depression is very common in people who have physical pain and antidepressants are very often prescribed.

It depends on the medical system, where are you from? Here you would need a referral from your gp for both a pain specialist (maybe neurological? then a neurologist) and a therapist.

i'm from finland. i think i'll try and call the healthcare center tomorrow, they could give me a GP appointment and they'd decide where to go from there

Also please keep insisting on your need to see a pain specialist/someone who can give you a diagnosis and treatment, they often ignore you when it's about pain but eventually refer you most of the time, I once almost had my appendix ruptured because they were busy doing pregnancy tests instead of believing me.

Sounds like a good plan 👍
Tell them about the pain and ask if they could speed up the process because it really sounds urgent in your first post.

You need to work on esp the core of the pain n problem, you're entitled to get help and not being in pain.

If u tell a doctor that ur pain is affecting ur mental state to the point of suicidal tendencies then they are gonna have to help u. Tbh i would literally tell them “if i dont get help asap, i will kill myself. Its that urgent. Im dead serious, i cant live like this any longer” straight up. U rly have to pressure doctors to get them to take u seriously
