i think the frenemies podcast really might be one of the best things to happen on the internet for mental health awareness actually lmao i really love trisha paytas like shes clearly got issues but shes entertaining as hell and honestly shes in therapy and shit and i respect it. and i respect ethan for trying to understand and be friends with her despite how difficult she can make it to be friends with her i think i wouldnt be able to be friends with someone like trisha until she was further along on her liek journey that energy is just too toxic for me but the world needs people who will be friends with people when theyre at the part of the journey that trish is at.

idk i could have someone like trisha like in my friends group but i couldnt like be one on one friends with her shes the kind of person i would like really like but like also understand being around her too much would effect my own mental health too much

Trisha has done too many unforgivable things for me to want to support her, things that go beyond her being a troll, but I wish her the best in trying to get help

getting help and still behaving the way you did before getting help is counter productive

idk With Trisha, i dont rly want to watch her content because i can't really get past the things she has done in the past, no matter the reasons there may be for it.

but i've been watching some clips and begun watching an ep or two of the frenemies podcast and like it's very interesting to see her in that environment. Like I won't claim Ethan is a reasonable person half the time, like he's as much of an ass as most youtubers, but at least he has spent most of his life not entangled in internet shit and LA type drama the way most of trisha's other friends seems to have for the past like 10 years, and it does make for a contrast that reveals a lot about her especially as a person? like the way they interact with each other feels very different from the way i've seen people interact with Trisha on camera in the past.

Not gonna make me support her or anyfing but like yeah.. it's just interesting...

will defo  watch the vid in a bit when i have the time!

i watched it and i agree
i didnt really have an issue w trish before, like other seem to have, and i knew she had mental health problems in some way or another, but that dr drew podcast really shined a light on her actual problems and its sad that the vid in question is right about how we're conditioned to perceive mental heath, and be quick to judge what is and what isnt a mental health issue when its, idk, really no ones business to tell someone if theyre suffering from a mental illness or not, or "diagnose" them based on what _you_ perceive mental illnesses to be

im all for trisha using the podcast as a coping mechanism and a tool to help her on the road to recovery cause its clear its working for her, + its a damn good podcast

now im gonna shower n sleep

I watched and im conflicted
I love psych irl but
they said a lot without really saying anything that groundbreaking
mental illness is complex, yes, water is wet
mental illness has been misconstrued on the internet and we shouldn't call people crazy, I agree
but watching people go through these downward spirals feels wrong, and I got the same feeling rewatching trash reality tv with my bf recently (who has a degree in psych)
the whole thing felt like an exploitation of mental illness, as a viewer I felt like I was witnessing something too personal for tv, but they commercialized it for views.
Trisha, knowingly or not, made her career off her illness
consumers ate it up to feel better about themselves which is mental all on its own
most of her outbursts are incredibly hard to watch, not because im judging her for her illness, but because it feels too personal and its really none of my business, therefore I can no longer bring myself to watch her

now im left with "ok we know what mental illness can look like, but watching it still feels wrong"

yea i think thats often the case with donna's content like she says a lot but doesn't say much this video could have been half as long and still covered the same ground.

i think feeling like 'watching trish feels wrong' is a valid take for sure. but like i don't THINK i watch fenemies BECAUSE trish is ill- i watch because she's funny and her on screen chemistry with ethan is top tier. and i hope that's why most people are watching? and that seeing her mental health struggles is a side effect.  but yea i probably DO watch 90day fiance because im entertained by how mental these people are? so theres a question here about the morality of being entertained by someone who is mentally ill.

the really interesting part to me i think was this idea of like a story arc. like people are frustrated with trisha because she doesnt have a story arc- shes just struggling and we're sort of forced to watch that without ever being fulfilled with the 'plot'.

I get that, trust me ive tuned into too many 90day fiancé episodes too hahaha
I dont think mental illness makes someone a bad person, however you can be a bad person with mental illness and there person who best fits this description is trump
he is without a doubt mentally ill and evil
and I sure as heck find enjoyment watching him spiral, however it is actually mildly terrifying
Trisha is able to recognize her actions are the result of her illness, trump will never take accountability for any of his actions and will in fact double down when called out. that's the difference. I dont think Trisha is inherently a bad person, I think she's just struggling in the very toxic environment which is the internet. trump through and through is a bad person period.

i dont see the deeper mental health meaning as i watch the podcast but i just kno its very entertaining and i look forward to it every week
