i need some help from someone with OCD (who has the diagnosis), or knows someone with the diagnosis.

i need some examples of things people with OCD does for a piece im writing for the newspaper. its all based on personal experience, so it doesnt need to be listed from the medical lexicon.

I knew a few people with ocd, I can only remember three of their rituals though. Is that what they're called in English? I don't know.

dunno, but i know what u mean. do u have any examples? will only use the example for my text as a way to describe what a person with ocd might do, compared to what they dont do, like sorting candy etc.

One kid I knew washed his hands a lot (I know, classic ocd, kind of a stereotype, apparently it's based in reality. Who knew?). He washed his hands so much they were so dry they bled. A girl I knew used to retake steps, as in go a few steps forward and decide (?) that wasn't right and go back and redo it. I don't know why or even what exactly she was doing but it made things very difficult for her. She also counted calories as a part of her ed, which is very common among people with ocd. A girl I know doesn't have diagnosed ocd but she does something that is very typical of people with ocd, she counts things obsessively.

Honestly, no. I think it's just an intrusive thought thing that won't go away unless you do the thing but I'm not very informed on the topic.

Honestly OCD is one of the hardest things for me to openly talk about. I'll easily talk about ADHD, anxiety, c-ptsd, but it feels more vulnerable for me than those do.

I was diagnosed with it in high school, I can't recall which year so not sure how old I was. I think around 16 though.
OCD isn't always double checking that you locked your car 5+ times or obsessively cleaning and/or organizing. I'd say that's the worst form to experience, but sometimes it can show as other nervous habits that are really difficult to get control over.
I started picking my cuticles when I was in grade school as a really bad way of coping with my anxiety. The more I did it the more I started to feel like doing so was making them "look better", because when it'd start growing back it looked funny to me.
My psychiatrist wanted to treat it with an anti-psychotic so I was prescribed one. Needless to say it didn't work. I only took one pill and it was enough to cause psychosis-like symptoms so I didn't take it again after that.
I personally don't believe in treating OCD with medicine (In my case at least). I think therapy is the better answer to it.

If you have any questions lmk.
