i taught myself hiragana when i was 12 and i was surprised just now that i was able to read the title still. i thought i had forgotten

no i mean like if you learned a language when you were a child, but then moved to a different country and spoke that new language exclusively then you would most likely forget your native language and be unable to speak it. happens a lot

That only happens if your really young but if you speak it again you learn it again easily but yeah
