Its also a way women were able to find their independence, both financially as a seamstress or as a way to be frugal and keep their families warm and clothed

I know way more men who knit or crochet than women

Historically it's been a womens "chore" to keep their families warm and alive though, which is no easy or  unimportant task.

yeah, financially it was a huge thing especially during wartime.  they also were probably able to congregate with each other as an excuse to knit or something, you know
