I actually do that almost every week.
I break it down, debone it, cook all the meat, and make broth out of the carcass, then I make rice with the broth.
It's this ritual I've got, idk.
But I've got so much red meat now I probably won't get a chicken for a few weeks

i just toss it in the oven and eat around the bones..... idk it sounds a lot more gross than your way but that's how i've been taught to prepare it lol

even after eating around the bones you can still boil them and get good broth, the heat kills any nasties.
I keep them in the freezer in a bag when I do it that way.

I am a pro frugal shopper lol
but I also give up a lot of convenience to do so.

me "splurging" is buying salad dressing instead of making my own

i admire the work you seem to put into things like this!! i'd love to get back to making pretty much everything from scratch too, but it's not a priority in my life right now. some day!!

It definitely didn't happen over night!
Something is better than nothing.

idk so much of my life is totally out of my control, and its just the one thing I can do and control and I like it.
I always feel like everything could come crashing down at any point but I always have enough food and know what to do with it.

it's become such a normal and routine part of my life that I forget other folks don't do it?
I get behind folks in the grocery store who buy package foods and I have 3x as much food at 1/4 the price a lot of time.

I love watching other people grocery shop, we are all so different.
