i've been thinking about going to a salon for a couple years probably and i never seem to get to it........ cutting your own hair somehow feels very 5-year-old on the picture day

do you have any tips, or should i just impulsively pick up the scissors at 4am and look what fun comes out of it? contemplating

idk what length ur going for but ive never had trouble cutting my own hair it just takes a while to even out cleanly

i don't have the best hand - eye coordination, especially with mirrors, so i'm worried it'll turn out fine on the front but horrible on the back

but how do you cut it behind your head there are no eyes i'm scared
my hair is like......barely medium-ish length so there isn't that much to work with, i guess it'd be easier with longer hair

I personally wouldn't cut them impulsively during the night although it sounds fun! I would wait a couple of days and then cut them if i still want to, but if you really want to cut your hair impulsively, now during this pandemic would be the perfect timing!

actually the 4am part was (apparently a poor attempt of) a joke but you're right though, now is probably a relatively safe time to mess up my hair

Oh thank you for clarifying that! It was probably a successful joke for most, I just don't understand jokes! I was actually discussing this topic today and how this pandemic has been a good time to try all the haircuts we've been too afraid to try before, since now we can just stay at home growing our hair if it fails. What kind of hairstyle do you have in mind?

first time i did it i had half a bottle of wine with old kitchen scissors and it turned out fine, a bit funky but okay
idk what kind of hair type u have but easier on thicker hair, the mistakes arent that easy to notice

also worst case, you have someone straighten out what you cant reach if you want it perfect. its always a vibe when u kno youve cut your own hair.

a tip is to not cut it straight-straight. add layors as you see fit and cut upwards to thin out the bottom. idk if that makes a difference or just an imaginary one tho lol

that's cool. i don't even have any particular style in mind, i just dislike my hair a lot and honestly i can't remember the last time i liked the way i look. i'll probably just try to make it look less dull and overgrown, and maybe i'll dye it again too. i just basically gave up on my hair when my ex ignored my advice on dying my hair and used so much of the purple dye that it left a permanent light green tint in my blonde hair once the other colours faded away

and thanks for the tips!! i'll probably try this once i'm not tired as a snorlax
also i don't feel like taking a shower and cutting your hair and then not taking a shower should be a criminal activity. do you cut your hair while it's dry btw?

haha back at u!

yea thats prob for the best.
i always cut right before i shower, its hard to see how its going to look like with wet hair. theres also going to be hair all over and thats a bitch to get off without showering. so yep shower after!
and when ur doing it make sure u have a great playlist on that fits the vibe, cutting your own hair without fitting music is boring and makes the whole ordeal anticlimactic
