what can break bathroom tiles

does anyone know what could cause bathroom wall tiles to break, aside from an outside force? because the apartment i recently moved out of had two cracked tiles in the shower, apparently, and the landlord tried to blame those on me. but i hadn't hit them with anything & i had no clue how they would have broken. well now he texted me that the construction company that built the building is taking responsibility for the broken tiles

the building is only a few years old and the tiles did break during the 1 year that i lived there, somehow.

i'm just wondering what it could be because my boyfriend told me the bathroom smelled like mold to him, and i also got these MASSIVE water bills that could not be explained. so could it be a water leak inside the wall or something? i did try to get a plumber to look for a leak when i lived there but the landlord wouldn't agree to it so idk

The building settling can cause them to crack, earthquakes (even minor ones), subfloor rotting and losing structure

if you smell mold and have high water bills you probably have a leak and if the landlord refused the plumber its because he knew he was in the wrong.

Seriously most landlords are cheap/lying greedy scumbags.
At least I can say that from experience, maybe there's good ones out there but I have yet to come across such.

All sorts of materials expand in warmth and shrinks in cooler temperatures, so probably could be a reason. Though it'd have to take quite a lot for that to happen to bathroom tiles I believe.
