is this normal????

i am asking bc i hate my psychiatrist and i have no trust in him and this feels,,,,,, not right

so two weeks ago i started medication (duloxetine), started at the lowest dose ofc which was 30mg. after only six days he wanted to up the dose to 60mg. i decided to wait till the 8th day, just so it had been a whole week of 30mg you know. its been a week since the newest dose and i have been unimaginably tired and heavy and it feel like theres running cement through my body instead of blood. just terrible. so the psychiatrist said to down the dose to 45mg,,,,, which means i have to open the capsule and pour half of the stuff out and close it again and take one and a half pill.......
idk it all just feels so wrong, pouring half the stuff out of a capsule and going up and down in doses this quick, i feel like my body barely has had any time to adjust. like i have been on meds before, years ago, and i remember months went by between every dosing adjustment. i dont wanna go down to 45mg it sounds dumb. idk is this normal or should i throw a rotten pear at my psychiatrist the next time i see him

feeling: < / 3

duloxetine only comes in 20, 30, and 60 mg I think?
I took it for about a year.
I've never heard of a doctor recommending opening the capsule, I did it myself when I was tapering off my dosage and quitting it, but it wasn't recommended by a doc.
Perhaps he suggested it to help you because insurance denied a different dose (that happens a lot)

i have the 30mg rn and taking two of them and yea 45mg doesnt exists thats why he wants me to take one and a half

wouldnt it be better to take 2 of the smallest mg pill? (20?) opening a pill and doing yourself doesnt sound like a reliable way to take medicine that needs to be the same amout every day

i think you should speak to a doctor

Duloxetine is a really strong medication, I'd definitely ask why this was the chosen method and if you feel like your dr gets defensive or irritated when he answers you, find a new dr.

i have really severe social anxiety and he first wanted to give me sertraline but i have already tried that and it didnt do much so he said duloxetine was his go to when sertraline didnt work. idk. i cant really just get another psychiatrist, even thought i really want to tbh. theres such a long waiting time on private psychiatrists and i have waiting for so long. theres really no others way, i just have to deal with this

I hope it works for you, but from personal experience settling for a medication that may not be right just because you feel trapped is more exhausting in the long run.

I've heard that there are genetic tests to see compatibility for those kinds of medications
maybe talk to your doctor about that.

duloxetine fucked all my shit  up, but I wanted it to work so badly I just told myself I felt fine.
then I fell asleep in traffic lol

Doesn't sound too weird to me but if you have worries about your medication, you should talk about them with your psychiatrist. There probably is a reason for his actions and knowing that might make you feel better.
