Are people overly sensitive
Hungover

I've seen a lot of posts on different social media, regarding people being too "soft" or "sensitive" for wanting to hold artists, public figures, and creators alike accountable for their actions.

This ties in with cancel culture I guess?
Idk, anyways what do you think?

mmm nah i don’t think people are sensitive or soft. there’s nothing wrong with wanting to hold people accountable for past actions and mistakes that have hurt/still hurts eg minorities. but with that in mind, people can be rly quick to jump onboard the cancel culture train. we should always seek to educate instead of cancelling.Ā

No not sensitive but they seem to put unrealistic standards to celebrities and their pasts compared to ppl irl. Also idk they could b "sensitive" in the way that they jump on the bandwagon without proof as josten saidĀ

yeah, i agree w that as well in terms of putting celebrities, creators, etc on pedestals and it can be rly damaging in the long run because no one is perfect and we all make mistakes that we can learn and grow from. it always makes me think of paramores song idle worship

I agree!
I do like the idea of educating over cancelling, and I will always try and do so, but some people are lost causes and I don't believe it should be everyone else's responsibility to educate people who've been purposefully harmful towards ex. minorities, if you get me?

Like, it takes so much mental power to sit every bigot down and educate them. It's their responsibility to better themself if they want to get better, if I'm making sense.

Don't know who Disguisedtoast is, but it sounds odd.

I don't think people are getting more sensitive, I think we're becoming more aware of how harmful our past behaviour which might've seemed like jokes to us then, actually have been.

I used to hang out with a group of people who made terrorist jokes, I never ever found them funny and they made me incredibly uncomfortable but I was too scared to tell them to stop - Especially because they also made "dark jokes" about themselves. They've since then stopped making those jokes and I remember one of them came up to me at a mutual friend's party, they told me that they'd stopped being "edgelords" and they seemed genuinely proud of their development.

If anyone ever tried calling them racist NOW, I'd disagree with them, but still, acknowledge that their "jokes" back then were racially charged and therefore racist.Change is allowed, change is encouraged, and especially when it's for the better.

i dont think it's ever about sensitivity in these cases and i dislike the general idea that being sensitive to some things makes you stupid or cringy

i dont think calling out ppl on heinous or insensitive or out of line actions and holding them accountable for them is ppl being sensitive
and i dont think dogpiling on people for not deleting their ten year old tweet where they said a stupid insensitive thing,Ā  then proceeding to harrass them, spread rumors and hound them until they leave all social medias is ppl being sensitive either

Totally, I don't understand why being sensitive is seen as an all around bad thing? It shows you have empathy and basic understanding of the people around you.

People idolize and glamorize celebrities to a point where they subliminally refuse to see them as human.

i have other thoughts too but i cant rly word them well

there's just a weird stigma around the word "sensitive" or having any emotional response to anything on the internet and it has to do with the trolling and humiliation and callout culture that has two weird sides to it, the side who don't care about anything and seem to revel on upsetting people (and tend to target minorities because it's easier and minorities tend to have and get more sympathy so = outrage), and the other side that lives on the toxic positivity woke culture seemingly waiting for one of their peers to take the smallest misstep so they can be the Hero who called this monster out, because they know trying to call out group A doesn't work, because they dont give a shit
and then both groups target everyone in between and on the outside and if you dont wanna be targeted you join one or leave every single social space on the internet

hope you enjoed that tangent, anyways,

There's also the underlining racist and sexist motive behind women, and especially women of colour not being allowed to get upset, if we do, we're just hysteric or an "angry black woman".

i feel like theres a lot of people that are too sensitive as a result of cancel culture, theres a lot that i see in for example the body positive (or rather fat positive) community where people wanting to lose weight is already seen as a "trigger"
its good that we've become more and more aware of stuff like triggers but there are people that need to grow a thicker skin just in order to cope with everyday life? if someone wanting to lose weight or losing weight triggers you it shouldnt be their responsiblity to not post content like this it should be yours to either get over it and/or block posts like that until you can cope with it
ykĀ  Ā and theres stuff like that in multiple areas, it feels like theres a lot of cases where people choose to be offended to play it up and feel morally superior instead of just you knowĀ  Ā living their lifesĀ

i just think it's cancel culture and wanting to seem superior
