i think even if it turned out that they were queerbaiting the fact that they came out as gay(even if it was fake gay) gave gay people some representation, and maybe they felt empowered by it

this is a good point.... like exploiting but not truly accepting lesbians is a complex topic and a lot of men were the ones in control of their career and they were also very young when the group came out so imagine if they were like "yeah we are gay forreal"
