How we feeling about this one? šŸ˜”

It sucks because there is already so much fear mongering with ''this causes cancer!'' and especially because of the greenwashing in beauty products due to misinformation, telling us everything is bad when usually it isn't. Companies also make up bullshit like ''our products don't contain x'' when that thing ins't even harmful, but it do so to sell their own crap.
But then we get news like these, which is an actual human hazard, so that for many reinforces their fears and suspicons about chemicals in products and causes more distrust. Ever since the Purito spf happening last year everything is CURSED

And I wish bigger skincare channels would adress the issues and not pretend like nothing is going on

From the little reading I did, this isn't meant to be in products, it was found in them, so it's not like the paraben fear or shit like that, but I don't know shit don't listen to me lol

it has been a common saying for many years that sunscreens (can possibly) cause cancer so idk

after the whole skincare community blowing up and becoming like a big trend, i honestly cant find my way around it anymore. i cant tell which ingredients or products are good and bad anymore because you're so filled with misinformation and contradictions everywhere that im just so tired of it. im so tired. i dont care anymore. i dont know who to trust and who not to trust, and it's not even that black and white bc some trustworthy actual dermatologists can still accidentally perpetuate and spread false information so idk

No you're right, it's exactly that which is the issue

Companies spreading lies which causes distrust to everything and anything for no reason but then actual dangerous chemicals appear and it causes people to be even more fearful and not knowing what is to be trusted and not

It's really upsetting. People are already so sceptical to daily sunscreen use and when situations like these happen it doesn't exactly make it any easier lol. I've bought the La Roche Posay ones, they seemed pretty safe but the thing is that we won't know unless everything gets tested by some outside company because they don't list harmful ingredients to us obv and we won't be able to 100% know what is in it unless tested by a third party

ye ive been really sceptical about the sunscreen craze that's going on rn. ive been taught to use sunscreen if it's sunny and warm out so i do do that, but with this new craze and everything little thing constantly being blown out of proportion as well as all the misinformation going around im just... : ( about all of it

Very understandable
But one positive at least is that we will eventually know what products we can trust. It's both good and bad that this is going on because we can steer away from the bad but there is still a long way to go until we fully know everything because it seems like new issues appear all the time now lol

I'm still not over the Gwyneth Paltrow skincare video she did with Vogue like I'm actually baffled.
Also won't surprise me if she uses this (which is a valid and serious danger) to push her own agenda/greenwashing (which is bs)

Just look at this. LOOK. It's so bad

it's also so amazing how little self awareness she has, like she says she struggles with dry skin, then physically exfoliates and applies the smallest amount of moisturizer ive ever seen? and no sunscreen while living in an area that has high amounts of sun and uv index. her entire routine does NOTHING for her, she might as well just not do anything and she would look the same. my mum washes her face with handsoap and doesn't use moisturizer or sunscreen (lmao) and gwyneth paltrow has the same amount of wrinkles and sun damage as my mum does. difference is my mum is 56 and gwyneth is 48

Yes! :-( And it's not like I have lots of knowledge and I won't claim I know a lot, but this is basic stuff that most people who invest into skincare will understand yet there she is

- Exfoliates
- Uses an oil which is needs to be a very last step (but before spf)
- Then uses eyepatches which is kinda useless now due to the oil
- Uses a moisturizer and again it's not going to do much for her skin due to the oil
- Puts on barely any sunscreen and says she only uses it ''where the sun really hits''?????

And as you mentioned, especially since she used an exfoliant it's even more important with enough sunscreen
