i do think that the showrunners make a real effort to remind the viewer "THIS TAKES PLACE TODAY! THIS IS NOT THE PAST! THIS IS NOT THE FUTURE! THIS IS A POSSIBLE ALTERNATE TIMELINE! THIS COULD BE REALITY NOW! PRESENT DAY! PRESENT TIME! HAHAHAHA !"
do they ever speak to women?
most of the writers room is women and margarat atwood is heavily involved in the show and this is very much within her philosophy as an author.
“When I wrote
The Handmaid’s Tale,” Atwood says [...], “nothing went into it that had not happened in real life somewhere at some time. The reason I made that rule is that I didn’t want anybody saying, ‘You certainly have an evil imagination, you made up all these bad things.’
“I didn’t make them up.”
