i honestly have no idea what a footnote is :/

im in a programme which if i pass i can get like... a reduced offer for uni. and its teaching us these referencing skills but like, there isnt a mentor available until the end of the month and the deadline is early in july uhhhh fml

NTNU is superior when it comes to these guides like I always go back and double check to ensure that my reference style is consistent and I've never had an issue. 
They have really good examples and all, a very nice "tool".

also i think there are standardised ways in dealing with that, e.g. if the date is unknown you write let me check

No problem, also if you've gotten your sources from scholar you can click one of the symbols and get the usual citation styles done for it so you don't have to do it manually
