should i try quetiapine

for sleep... i'm gonna talk about my sleep problems to my psychiatrist and the only medication they've been offering me for sleep is quetiapine, no doubt about it that's going to be the only thing he's willing to prescribe once again. they won't give me anything else because i haven't tried quetiapine

should i just try it finally
i've refused every time until now because it has a shit ton of bad side effects (because it's an antipsychotic), many people become dependent on it and can't sleep without it anymore after being on it for a while, the use for insomnia is off label / against finnish guidelines so i'm against it on principle, and also my sister made me promise to never take it because she's on it and she says it's a drug from hell etc

ah, the classic finnish "eh take this antipsychotic for a way milder thing whatever"
i wouldnt, for the reasons you listed but idk how desperate you are for sleep

the image ive gotten of strong medication for sleep is that it's not proper sleep n youll just lose consciousness and wake up horribly groggy and still exhausted

i've been taking 3x25mg quetiapine pills every night for insomnia, couldn't sleep prior taking 'em. 'twas also the first med my doctor suggested
i haven't experienced any negative effects (that could be connected to this med for sure anyway) so for me it's been win-win

Yes ofc. Gain weight, get ugly, realize that you are just a shell. No feelings, no nothing.

if i were you i wouldn't. I've taken antipsychotics for insomnia before and although I fell asleep, the quality of the sleep was really bad. Maybe you could try it for a while and see if it works but I hope you find some other solution.

never heard of quetiapine for sleep
i take it because it's a mood stabilizer for my bipolar

lmao i have took it on-off  for 10 years and i'm addicted to sedatives
my whole sleeping system is fucked up i basically can't sleep without weed or meds
and quetiapine is legal and cheaper than smoking weed every night so ok

but okay like. side effects are always very individual, i haven't ever got any side effects from quetiapine. so i wouldn't refuse it just because they are possible and anyway you can always quit taking them if you get side effects
honestly what i think is that you should try everything else to help you sleep before trying such a strong meds. they are not good your brain and body. but also lack of sleep destroys you, so if you really struggle with insomnia try them. it doesn't mean you'll take them rest of your life anyhow

i took it for sleep and bipolar, but sadly got a lot of side effects ( and it was really hard to quit them )
the sleep i got from them wasnt good either, they just knocked me out and i woke up groggy and weird every morning
Id personally advise against them for sleep, but then again the effects is probably different from person to person
Maybe you should try melatonin?

If you're really desperate? And nothing else works. You'd think they'd just give you zopiclone..

It feels pretty extreme that their go-to is a antipsychotic like thats pretty heavy stuff
where i live the first sleeping pill they will give u is melatonin which is very ”natural” and has like no side effects cuz all it does is making ur body produce the thing that makes us sleepy that we naturally have in our body

I think the psychiatrist is up to something.

yea they gave it in high doses for sleep to almost everyone at the psych ward i was in, I think they basically used it as a sedative so we would be calm throughout our stay
it felt weird knowing its not recommended for sleep anymore
