so i just read something on instagram that reminded me of this.

the other day in the city i saw a girl probably 11-12 years old wearing denim shorts that were so short her actual ass cheeks were showing. and my immediate reaction was oh no that's awful, she's just a kid and she shouldn't be showing all that, i worry for her.

but i know i've also read a lot of sentiments like, if you have a problem with a kid "showing too much skin", you're the problem because you're sexualizing a literal child. and i've agreed with those. bc legs are just legs like if you see a child wearing shorts as too suggestive that ain't right

yet now i don't agree
i do think a butt is "private parts" and inherently not as neutral. because i mean touching someone's butt or boobs is not the same as touching someone's leg or arm, right? like one would be ok and the other not. that's why i feel uneasy about this. but yes, i'm curious about what you guys think? feel free to call me out i guess but please be nice

I think its fine (same w crop tops etc bla bla bla) but Ithink its nicer if they wear the shorts that go like, to right under the butt

imo, you're not sexualizing kids for knowing that there's real predatores out there.
I wouldn't let my future kids wear that simply because of they're safety and protection. It's sad, it's very sad.

yeah i think reasoning is important like mr worldwide is sayin. being nervous for their safety and comfort as opposed to judging them for their clothing choices...but, hell, predators oftentimes dont care what ur wearin. its a cruel world

and also i think it's kind of concerning the amount of older women wearing "child-like" clothing to appear younger than they are as well. Shirts that are extremely small with MLP or kids show designs on them and rompers etc. because I feel that perpetuates sexualizing children as well in a way. If a man sees a grown woman in a paw patrol top and thinks it's sexy what if a legitimate child wearing that turns a reaction as well y'know.

I feel age-appropriate clothing goes both ways in a sense but if I'm crazy pls let me know lol.

what should be concerning is that there's people who defend kids wearing stuff that we all know for a fact they should not be wearing
pointing out that a kid should wear kid clothing (and pointing out that short shorts, that basically leaves the butt out, are not kid-appropiate) is nowhere near to sexualizing a kid, but rather shows concern for the kid's safety and also awareness of what kind of people can exist around them.

i'd be worried if i saw some grown adult defending the "right" for a kid to wear short shorts and super tiny tops, however. and i'd probably want them as far as possible from any kid in general

girls have zero non-sexualised options out there, it's so awful to see, because they get groomed into this behavior so early.

if your 12 year old child is walking round the streets with their ass hanging out, it’s a problem

I get both points but ultimately children wearing such clothing makes me uncomfortable and concerned for them so I think I know where I stand.

I don't think it is about age appropriate clothing but rather dressing like a proper human being when in public, it is inappropriate to show your ass on the bus for example. If your clothes aren't covering parts that would be covered while wearing underwear you need to reconsider your outfit.
