Chanterelles are the only ones I know confidently enough to harvest.
My pickin' spot has been really overworked this year sadĀ

I will probably dry most of them for winter andĀ  I thought about making ravioli filling orĀ  bread dumplings with mushroom sauce with the rest.

Mushrooms dry so well, I love it.

I have some friends who grow mushrooms in sawdust, and they are the first folks in Kentucky to get market recipe approval for selling home canned mushrooms.Ā

I know ~10 kinds confidently enough to harvest, but my mom knows a lot more, so I give her my unidentified mushrooms sometimes.

Have you tried to expand your picking spot a bit? I figured that most people won't stray away more than a few hundred meters from logging roads and marked paths.

I want to learn more so bad! Morels are pretty common here in KY but I haven't found any yet.Ā

So, I live right next to some hiking trails maintained by the local college, and last year with covid, no one commuted to them, so they basically were all mine, since I live right next to them lol.
Part of my problem is I'm not physically well, so going off the trail can be a bit difficult for me, but if I'm not alone I feel safer to do so - I may team up with some friends.Ā
I also know a really cool spot that folks don't go to I'd like to check with friends.Ā

They mostly do oyster and lions mane in sawdust.Ā

When I was in college, the farm quit keeping pigs indoors, and moved them out to pasture (love it)
but they still had these big concrete buildings with water hookups that they'd kept pigs in for decades, so once it was cleaned out and empty for long enough that any pathogens wouldn't have survived, they turned it into a shiitake mushroom log facility.Ā

a that's so cool, I don't find morels very often here, here it's mostlyĀ  chanterelles, birch polette, pink lady, porkini, cauliflower mushroom, velvete bolet, bay bolete,Ā  weeping milk cap, parasol mushroom, shaggy ink cap

wow I had to look up the translation for half of those lmao

oh yeah, that's understandable, safety first, absolutely!
