My suggestion is to think about where you are placing your houses, like keep in mind what you might want for the future, because moving houses is a pain in the butt too say the least. It can be a little slow at start, but it will get better.
When you are getting villagers for your houses soon after starting. instead of just letting them move in, you can actually choose them yourself. When ever you have made the houses, the same day you need to go to the mystery islands and there will be villagers there you can invite to your island. You can go and come back as much as you want until you get a villager you like, but it will of cause cost on tickets.
When you have to start selling turnips, keep in mind that their is two turnip prices per day. There is one in the morning and one in the afternoon som pre midday and after.
IF you choose to time travel too move things along, make sure you travel day by day and don't go back before your project is done, because something might mess up. Especially time travelling to get villagers too move out, you have to get them all out before travelling back to real time, or your next villager might be bugged having to have the former villagers house. You can search how to do it properly on youtube tho!
I can't think of anything else on the top of my head rn
