so i interviewed this girl who is a twitch streamer. she is also on social support due to being too sick to work. in the interview she said "Det er veldig deilig å ha noe å gjøre, så jeg slipper å føle meg som om jeg bare sitter og NAV'er", which roughly translates to "i like that i have something to do, so that it doesnt feel like i'm just sitting on my ass receiving social support"
"sitte og nave" is kinda stigmatized. it's akin to queer for lgbt ppl. some hate it, some r neutral, some like it and use it themselves.
now, since i have some journalistic integrity, i well... wrote it as she said because people tend to react negatively when you put words into their mouth.
anyways, this has made local instagram influencers really, really mad. they argue (and spam tag my newspapers insta) in insta stories, and say that its super super bad that i've written "sitte og nave". now, in context of the article, the twitch streamer is very obviously talking against the stereotype of people on social support only sitting on their ass. but the outraged instagram influencer is saying... that... people on... social support dont only sit on their ass, which is kinda... yeah. that's what the article states?!
im miffed that they've never contacted me or my editor just... rage tagged my MOTHER (?!) on insta, and it doesnt really make me want to do anything to please her. she has sent dms to the newspaper insta and asked for comments, and been referred to the editor several times, but persists in complaining.
she stated that "she didnt want to attack anyone" but honestly? it feels like she's attacking me. she has given me absolutely no chance to defend myself, and she controls the narrative because all of this takes place on HER insta story, so even if i were to send a dm n explain myself she can just choose to not post it. stories only being up for 24 hours makes it even worse!
n now i shall ask you:
was it wrong of me to quote the person i interviewed on "sitte og nave"?
i personally have neither interst or intention of moderating my interview subjects to placate middle aged farming influencers - within reason of course. if my interview subjects feel comfortable with jokingly saying that she "sits and naves" - who am i to say "no, you cant say that"? she is on social support, she faces the stigma of being a person on social support - who are these people to decide what other people on social support can and cant say???????????? who am i to decide what she can say?!
??????
