Chaplin did several talkie films.
I do enjoy silent movies but I have to be in the right frame of mind to be able to focus on them, I also have to pause them a lot and come back to them (it took me like a whole day to watch Metropolis)
I got to go to a silent film screening once where they had a live organist doing the music for Steamboat Bill Jr. and honestly THAT was a super cool experience.
I tend to like the history surrounding the movies more than the movies themselves tho
Film itself as a form of media was
literally brand new,Ā Ā folks didn't know how to act on screen yet, they hadn't yet developed modern acting techniques, camera angles, editing. It was literally
brand new.
Also because it was printed on super volatile materials, over 90% of silent films are lost forever, not to mention they didn't really try to preserve them, no one expected anyone in the future to care, they were pumped out for a profit, fast.
the silent movies we have today we have because they survived, not because they were goodĀ lol
lots were destroyed, they could have been amazing, we'll never know.Ā
Chaplin is a goddamn legend tho I don't think anything he ever did was bad. Especially what he wrote himself.Ā
