do you have different ways of greeting people depending on who they are? like are certain words only for certain people. i'm just curious

i only use "heippa" for people i'm very close to, n it always startles me when someone i don't know says it to me lol. "moi" or "moikka" is for friends and acquaintances, and "terve" is for complete strangers, it feels weird to say it to someone i know. and "hei" is for strangers when it's more formal than casual

In real life? Definitely. Old religious folks get mad when you don't say Grüß Gott (lit. transl.: greet god), for professional occasions I use Guten Tag (lit. transl. : Good Day but we say it as a greeting) for everyone else Hallo.

Um I don't know, I just know I hug my friends when I greet them because it's mandatory here.

does finnish have an unusual amount of different words for "hi" because all of the ones i said are just that... though "terve" is also the word for healthy but it just means hi in this context
