How long is sober, 4-6 months mby. Idk if regular human alcohol consumption counts but. I have a long time to plan in advance, just I already have two diagnoses but they wanted me to get them reevaluated after two years, so next year, since I got them at the ripe age of 17

i would assume drunk-seeking alcohol usage at least should be eliminated since it increases depression hahah, dunno about small doses tho

i personally find it funny they need me to "stabilize" which they involved "getting rid of" some of the symptoms which is like??? being unstable is literally a symptom wtf do u mean??

i've been "a patient" in the psych health circles for 10 years and i still don't have a clear diagnosis. i stg they just don't wanna give me one

Im not depressed tho so idk if that would be an issue but ouff. Might just lie abt it/not mention it at that point if its only alcohol and not excessive amounts/often

My friend had to be sober for a month, but I might differ from country/ system to system.

Yeah lol I thought they had it out for me before cus I never got a diagnosis even tho it was p clear what it could be, or meds for that matter even tho I couldn't function, while my friends went there a couple of times n they were like "ah yes here depression anxiety and meds"

True, saw someone that said they were always turned away for getting a diagnosis when they weren't even using stuff anymore, just cus they had "drug user" in their journal so im just 🙂 makes me wonder if its even worth admitting to it at all

mostly it's for a month yeah
they want to make sure it isn't exhilirated by persistent drug usage.

Considering there's a huge overlap between personality disorders and substance abuse disorders, I'd certainly hope they'd at least see you and do a screener....

Yeah true, bit its all v confusing to me. Like heavy drug use seems to be very common w certain disorders, but still sometimes they just brush u off completely as either drug seeking or just drugged up and therefore ur fucked up. Got the diagnoses before I had even tried drugs tho, so idk if that would even make a difference when I possibly get a reevaluation, since it was there from before. Dunno. Just don't want drugs in my journal forever

They want you to be sober because sometimes symptoms will improve or go away when you’re sober. If you’re an addict they can’t tell if you’re acting a certain way because you’re high or if it’s just how you are. Like it makes sense to get clean first and eliminate the addiction as a possible explanation for the behavior or feelings. If you get diagnosed while you’re not sober you’re more likely to be misdiagnosed because of the substance abuse disorder. Typically they treat addiction before anything else. Like ideally they would do both since many disorders cause substance use issues but that’s just not how it’s done.
